The Palau de la Música Catalana

Lluís Domènech i Montaner's 1908 concert hall is arguably the most beautiful room in Europe to hear anything in, and a ticket to an evening here is worth building a trip around.

The hall itself

A single auditorium of stained glass, mosaic and sculpture, with an inverted stained-glass dome suspended above the stalls. Guided tours run daily, but a concert is the better way to see it working.

What plays here

The Catalan symphonic season, visiting orchestras, flamenco crossover and a serious choral programme. Midweek recitals are reliably the cheapest way through the door.

Booking

Buy from the Palau's own box office rather than resellers, and check the programme a couple of months out for the choral dates that fill the hall with local audiences.
